Sustainable Rainwater Harvesting - Introduction

The free resource from your roof!

What's it all about?

Rainwater harvesting is not a new concept. Only recently have the benefits been recognised now that mains water supplied from the tap has become a much more precious (and restricted) commodity.

The system works by taking the rain from your roof gutters, filtering out leaves and debris and storing the water in an underground tank.

The water is then pumped into the building to be used for non-potable applications such as toilet flushing. If the tank runs empty, the system switches to mains supply. Simple.

The benefits?

Rainwater Harvesting system offer a host of benefits to commercial applications, whether as a new-build or retrofit option.

Features & Benefits

Start saving money on your water bills straight away!

The Envirocare system, allows you to replace mains water with rainwater from your roof. Using modern engineering, rainwater is stored and distributed to all non-potable applications inside and outside the building. In the event of water depletion within the system, water supply is maintained by switching to mains water automatically.

Designed for your convenience-

The Envirocare rainwater management system has been developed to be as user friendly as possible. Using the most modern technology, the system is easy to install, maintain and above all, to use.

Envirocare have a dedicated technical team able to design tailor made systems to suit all types of applications.

The Envirocare system is sold with the benefit of the British Board of Agrément Certificate, (No 02/3933) to ensure compliance with Water Regulations and Building Regulations.

A fully automated system

The Envirocare System collects rainwater from the roof, filters out leaves and debris and stores it in either an underground or above ground holding tank. Water is then drawn off via a silent running pump passing through a series of filters for use in a variety of nonpotable applications as and when required. When stored water is not available the system automatically switches to mains water thereby ensuring that a constant water supply is maintained without intervention from the user.

Standard Features

  • Silent running – pump located within the tank.
  • Three stage filtration system - down to 130 microns.
  • Display unit - with a simulated analogue level display and system status indicator giving visual indication of extended pump running or system failure.

  • Building Management Signals - include system pressure, water level in holding tank, alarm condition and separate optional output for water temperature.
  • Control unit - integrated, with both plumbing and electrical controls at a single point.
  • Flexibility - the system can be used with a variety of tank volumes from 3,000 litres to in excess of 100,000 litres.

Optional Extras

  • Electronic pumped overflow - for use where there is no positive gravity overflow from external holding tank.
  • Audible pump fail alarm unit - used to supplement the visual pump fail alarm unit which comes as standard.
  • Standby pumps - with automatic switch over in event of primary pump failure.
  • Cascade pumps - where a number of pumps are linked to satisfy varying demands for water at different times.
  • Ultra Violet Disinfection Units - Includes additional filters down to 5 micron and flow rates range from 0.13 - 0.90 litres/second.
  • Leaf Filters - a full range of leaf filters to ensure that clean water enters the rainwater storage tank.

Product Range

No two buildings are alike and this is taken into account when assessing the system's components. Each system installation is bespoke, with carefully selected tanks, filters and control systems. The monitoring and telemetry can also be linked into building management systems.

Designed for Your Convenience

Whether it is from a cost-saving, environmental or storm water management standpoint, our technical staff will evaluate the site conditions and design a cost-effective, easy to use system that is tailored for your specific building application.

Each system is capable of being upgraded and can be linked into future development expansion or potential change of use.

System Options

The Envirocare system has two primary options; the Gravity System uses an elevated header tank to store filtered water after the main tank. The Direct System pumps water from the main storage tank and is used where a header tank is impractical.

Envirocare Gravity System

The Gravity System has a major advantage in that in the event of a power failure on site (or the rain stocks running dry) the system will automatically switch to mains water supply to ensure a continuity of service.

The header tank contains two independent valves operating both the mains and rainwater supply. The system will always draw on rainwater first.

Envirocare Direct System

The Direct System is used where it is impractical to have a header tank and therefore filtered rainwater is pumped direct from the holding tank to the various appliances. When the holding tank is running dry there is a small automatic charge of mains water into the storage tank to ensure the system never runs dry.

The main advantage of this system is that rainwater is delivered to the appliances at mains pressure (3.5 bar).

Envirocare "Multi User" System

The "Multi User" System is used where one Envirocare Gravity System is used to service up to 5 properties from one tank. This system is used most often on Housing Association Developments where the roof areas are small and cannot justify a system for each property. A landlords electricity supply must be available for this system.
